Choosing an Exhaust for a V8 or V12 Vantage
Over the years of its manufacture, the V8 and V12 Vantage models have a number of exhaust designs.
Compatible with selected V8 Vantage and V8 Vantage S applications. Larini GTE or ST2 ActiValve Systems
There are also application-specific Larini choices for the V12 Vantage and V12 Vantage S. The V12 Zagato requires its own dedicated fitting.
This is why the model name alone is not sufficient. Use model, production year, engine, specification and existing exhaust configuration to determine the correct exhaust.
When Does an Aston Martin Exhaust Need Replacing?
Heat, vibration, moisture and driving conditions can cause corrosion, cracking or leaking of exhaust components. If you observe any of the following signs, it could be that your Aston Martin exhaust system needs inspection-
- Unusual noise or rattling
- Exhaust leaks or smells
- Visible corrosion or cracks
- Damaged brackets or heat shields
- Excessive movement
- Exhaust valve problems
A new noise does not mean that the entire system needs to be replaced. It can be a broken bracket, heat shield or individual component. Best to inspect properly before ordering parts.
Original Exhaust or Performance Upgrade?
The right choice depends on what you want from your Aston Martin.
A genuine replacement may be preferable when you want to:
- Maintain the factory specification
- Replace a damaged exhaust component
- Restore an older Aston Martin
- Keep the existing exhaust configuration
A performance system may be more suitable when you want to:
- Change the exhaust character
- Upgrade the existing system
- Install a selected Larini GTE system
- Use an ST2 system with ActiValve where available
When picking performance exhausts, consider the unique vehicle application, rather than merely going with a system based on engine size or model family.
How to Choose the Correct Aston Martin Exhaust Part
Before ordering, check:
- Model
- Model year
- Engine
- Vehicle specification
- Existing exhaust configuration
- Original part number
- VIN
- The VIN also helps verify fitting if production changes or specs vary.
- Pictures of the present exhaust can help determine the proper setup for performance systems.
- Valve controlled exhaust systems should be professionally installed.
Keeping Your Aston Martin Exhaust in Good Condition
Regular inspection can help identify exhaust problems before they become more extensive.
Look for:
- Corrosion
- Exhaust leaks
- Damaged brackets
- Loose heat shields
- Cracked components
- Excessive movement
Inconsistent valve operation should also be checked on vehicles with electronic exhaust valve control.
Only by replacing the failed component when applicable may unnecessary replacement of serviceable exhaust parts be avoided.
